Wow. Just wow. We got to the Common Ground yesterday and got our cots. It's amazing here. Just as you would think a bunch of hippy volunteers would set up shop. It's a blown out old Catholic middle school called St. Mary of the Angels school. It was minorly flooded during Katrina, and the gym floor was destroyed (and ripped off) but appears to be structurally sound. It's no worse than a lot of the abandoned buildings that are salvagable around here.
I found out that the houses we'll be gutting are salvagable. We tear out everything and they leave the frame and rebuild it. Wow.
